Kentucky State Capital in Frankfort, KYThe Kentucky Board of Architects was established by an Act of the Kentucky General Assembly in 1930 to protect the public health, safety and welfare by the regulation of architects. It was originally titled the Kentucky Board of Examiners and Registration of Architects. Since July, 2002, the Board has additionally assumed the responsibility for the certification of interior designers in the Commonwealth. The Board is governed by the Kentucky Revised Statutes under Title XXVI, Occupations and Professions, Chapter 323 and is operating under the Executive Branch of State Government.

The Board is a self-supporting agency and receives no general fund tax appropriation. It is funded entirely through fees assessed for regulating its professionals.

Architect Renewal Information

The FY2016-2017 Architect renewal period is now closed. If you did not renew, voluntarily surrender your license or applied for and received emeritus status by the 31st of August, your license has been administratively revoked, effective September 1, 2016. If you are not sure of your status you may contact the board office. If your license is administratively revoked, please note the following:

1. You are no longer licensed as an architect in the Commonwealth of KY. In accordance with the Kentucky Revised Statues, specifically KRS 323.230, "Only persons licensed under this chapter may be styled or known as architects in Kentucky, or use any words or letters or assume any titles or description tending to convey the impression that they are architects." Also, please be aware under KRS 323.120 the Board may take further action, including denial to reinstate your license, if it determines you have been practicing under a revoked license.

2. To reinstate your Kentucky license you must contact the Board office.

Certified Interior Designer Renewal Information

The FY2016-17 Certified Interior Designers renewal period is now open. You may now renew your active or inactive certificate or you may apply for inactive status. The Renewal period will be open till Midnight on November 30, 2016. To reinstate your Kentucky Certificate you must contact the Board office.


It is the licensee and/or certificate holder’s responsibility to insure that all contact information is current with the Board office. There is an administrative fee of twenty-five (25) dollars for failure to notify the board of change of an address, telephone number, email address or employment within thirty (30) days of the change (ref: 201 KAR 19:085, Section 2(10)).  A Change of Address Form is available under our FORMS.
