​​​​​Kentucky State Capital in Frankfort, KYThe Kentucky Board of Architects was established by an Act of the Kentucky General Assembly in 1930 to protect the public health, safety and welfare​ by the regulation of architects. It was originally titled the Kentucky Board of Examiners and Registration of Architects. Since July, 2002, the Board has additionally assumed the responsibility for the certification of interior designers in the Commonwealth. The Board is governed by the Kentucky Revised Statutes under Title XXVI, Occupations and Professions, Chapter 323 and is operating under the Executive Branch of State Government.

The Board is a self-supporting agency and receives no general fund tax appropriation. It is funded entirely through fees assessed for regulating its professionals.

Architect Renewal Information

The FY2022-2023 Architect renewal period is now closed.  If you did not renew, voluntarily surrender your license or applied for and received emeritus status by August 30, 2022, your license has been administratively revoked, effective August 31, 2022.  If you are not sure of your status you may contact the board office.

If your license is administratively revoked, please note the following:

1. You are no longer licensed as an architect in the Commonwealth of KY. In accordance with the Kentucky Revised Statues, specifically KRS 323.230, "Only persons licensed under this chapter may be styled or known as architects in Kentucky, or use any words or letters or assume any titles or description tending to convey the impression that they are architects."  Also, please be aware under KRS 323.120 the Board may take further action, including denial to reinstate your license, if it determines you have been practicing under a revoked license.

2. To reinstate your Kentucky license you must contact the Board office by email boa.irc@ky.gov or by phone at (859)246-2069​

Certified Interior Designers Renewal Information

The FY2022-23 Certified Interior Designers renewal period is now open. You may now renew your active or inactive certificate, or you may apply for inactive status. The Renewal period will be open until Midnight on November 30, 2022. ​​​​​​The FY 2023 Architect Annual renewal period is now closed. Renewal for FY 2024 is scheduled to open next year for online renewal by June 1, 2023.​

Certified Interior Designers

The FY 2023 Certified Interior Designer renewal period is now open. The FY 2023 CID annual renewal period will be available from August 31, 2022, until midnight on November 30, 2022.
